I have an interest in all things Victorian, so this article on Victorian maternity and childbirth was a particularly enjoyable read for me.
New Zealand appears to be about to pay more for donated eggs/sperm! The amount given to donors will be increased to $2000 for eggs and $500 for sperm. This is really cool, although I have only seen one article about it – there should be more coverage, NZ media! A quick scan of the Fertility Associates (FA) website did not reveal any discussion there (in the most obvious places), but they might be avoiding discussing it up front, so as to not appear as though they are paying for the gametes – TECHNICALLY, that is still illegal – this money will supposedly just be for covering costs and inconvenience, etc. Alternatively, they may not have updated their website as yet, given that this change does not go into effect until July.
